Uruguay becomes first nation to provide a laptop for every primary school student
Uruguay’s been a huge fan of the One Laptop Per Child initiative for quite some time, and while we’re still unsure if it’s the entity’s biggest customer, the aforesaid nation is certainly doing some serious business with Nicholas Negroponte and Company. After the first swath of youngsters received their green and white XOs back in May of 2007, the final smattering of kids have now joined the proud group of laptop-toting tots in the country’s circuit of primary schools. You heard right — every last pupil in Uruguay’s primary school system now has a laptop and a growing love for Linux, and we’re told that the whole thing cost the country less than five percent of its entire education budget.

SAMSUNG N310 NETBOOK

Samsung has decided to shake things up, following up its cracking little NC10 netbook from last year with its latest chunky, funky-looking N310. Designed by Japanese artist Naoto Fukasawa, these round-edged, cutesy machines are available in a range of cool colours including orange, mint blue and business-like black. It is rare for us to test out a netbook that gets as much attention as this one got from passers-by in the office, many of whom stopped to coo over the machine while wantonly stroking its rubbery exterior.

BOYNQ STUDIOS STELLAR AESTHETICS

Space-age-y design is hard to pull off, and it takes a tremendous amount of design skill to make something as typically cheesy as a USB-powered light look good; but Netherlands-based Boynq Studio, headed up by Sebastiaan Peersmann and Armand van Oord, definitely pulls it off.
Boynq’s line of alarm clocks, computer speakers, and random accessories like aformentioned light and a retractable mouse pad for road warriors are all objects that might’ve gone awry in the wrong hands, but Peersmann and van Oord get all the details right.

LENOVO’S IDEACENTRE A600 – NOW AVAILABLE TO ORDER!!!

Lenovo’s breaking some serious molds with the IdeaCentre A600, and if you’ve been waiting anxiously ever since we got up close and personal with one back at CES, the patience has (nearly) paid off. As of now (like, right this very moment in time), three varients of the all-black machine are up for ordering, with base prices sitting at $699.99, $799.99 and $999.99. They each show that shipping won’t happen for another few weeks, but we’ll bet Lenovo’s just being conversative.

Lenovo Pocket Yoga touchscreen netbook

Update: Lenovo said the notebook is described as an “experiment” from 2007 that, following the earlier leak, the company decided to show in more formal shots. It argued that the Pocket Yoga is “finished” but added that the company is always designing new products.
